History of SASA
.
The
concept of SASA was born in a little room in Unitech towards the end of
1988. It was a dream that Jacob Sinne, Paul Siwi and Bonny Igime had
and ever since it grew from strength to strength with 22 conventions in
the last 22 years. Annual conventions are held all over Simbu. Two of
the 22 conventions were held outside of Simbu, one at Jimi (WHP) in
1999
and the other in Magitu (EHP) in 2001. SASA celebrated 3
Anniversaries over the
last 21 years. Its 5th Anniversary was held in Doliba (1993), 10th
Anniversary at Wara Simbu (1998) and 20th Anniversary at Kerowagi (
2008). Several Guest speakers were engaged including Dr. Newbold from
Oakwood College, USA who was the speaker at the 20th Anniversary
convention at Kerowagi. SASA has recorded nearly 10,000 members over
the last 21 years. SASA has groomed many students from primary
school through to Universities and colleges and has graduated
many qualified professionals who have gone to serve both locally and
internationally. SASA has created a milestone to be the first
student association in PNG and the Pacific to incorporate its business
arm called Inguno Ombuno Foundation (IOF) with the Investment Promotion
Authority (IPA) of PNG.
In its Medium Term Plan (MTP), it is looking at acquiring a land to
build an office and create a position for a full-time chaplain to be
based in Kundiawa.
Today
SASA is a spiritual force that has already transcends and touched
many
lives and people of the rugged and yet beautiful terrains of Simbu.
