This page will have the highlights of past conventions

1989 - Muaina Convention
From a little room in Unitech to Muaina, This was the very first convention when the dreams of Jacob Sinne, Bonny Igime and Paul Siwi were realised.

1990 - Kerowagi Convention
Camped at the Kerowagi Primary School
Paul Siwi and the Friends of Lae sang at the convention.
Conducted the very first public outreach in Kundiawa Town near the main highway bus stop and radio Simbu. .

1991 - Gembolg Convention
The Catholic community at Gembolg ran amock and ransacked SASA campground on a Sabbath. Our boys never retaliated. Many of our female and junior students couldn't help their tears as they watched their tents ripped.

1992 - Karimui Convention
SWG and SASA Trackers walked on foot to Karamui.
What else happenend there? Something happened during the flight back. Let us know if you have the story.

Dedicate the SASA Trekkers Memorial Church at Mogiage.
Ingu Kombulgo (IK) Games were launched and the 5kg shield was won by Chuave.
Our Chuave students had to carry that shield on foot from Doliba to Kundiawa as the Wagi bridge was flooded at that time.
Tell us some more stories here........................

1994 - Keu Convention
Keu community invaded the convention site with mud and made us celebrated the Christmas excitment with them. Vitus Mali Tugo (VMT) almost floored one of the celebrants. He has the story.

1995 -  Munuma Convention
Any highlights there ??

1996 - Papnigl Convention

1997 - Terembuno Convention
The Lutherans community at Terembuno mourned at the day of the departure of SASA. The students joined in and this was the only convention that SASA shed the most tears.  If you were there you would think it was a funeral. There were students and locals in arms rolling around the ground. The crying session went for nearly 2 hours.

1998 -  Wara Simbu 10th Anniversary Convention
One of the biggest conventions.
Produced the first colour convention magazine
SASA had an historic flood in the middle of the convention week. Many of the tents were literally floating while all plastic canvas shelters were completely washed away.
Many adventist communities around Simbu attended in huge numbers including a contingent from Eastern Highlands Province and  Isikeli Vakabu (A 3rd Year Fijian Theology Student from Avondale College).
SASA also had its biggest baptism. Numbers???

1999- Jimi Convention
SASA walked for whole day to get to the site. On the return journey many of our students nearly lost their lives due to fatigue and food. Leaves and tree barks were edible. Upon seeing a scone box, many couldn't hold their tears, Benjamin, Bal, Gilford, VMT, Motsy  know the details of this story.
Benjamin got married to Agnes Bayak after this convention at Kabiufa.

2000- Movi Convention
John Wagi was one of the SASA faithfuls who always keep the "time" going. He is one we can't forget.
Half of the students had to walk to the convention site as one of the hired vehicles broke down half way on the Siane Road.

2001 - Bena SASA/EHASA Combine Convention

2002 - Mt. Whilem Convention
SASA students climbed Mt. Whilem and others went as far as lake Pindi and Aundo.
Vincent Kumura and a crazy Markham called Avi Kitoria (then a psychology student at UPNG) swam at
Lake Aundo. It was freezy cold. Mt. Whilem is the highest mountain in PNG and the Southern Hemisphere, about 14 000 feet high.

2003 - Yani Convention
It was the second EHASA and SASA Combine Convention. The EHASA students were shocked to have travelled the Gumine Road. Some of them got the scare of their life time as they manoevered over the gorges and slopes of the South Simbu Rd. Many had to voluntarily walk up the Minegone ridge to Dirima Catholic station before they re-board their trucks. Overall it was a great convention. The convenors (Noah Kool & John Mol Dulume) and the Yani Church members did a fantastic job to host the students.
